1. Open the PDF you would like to remove metadata from in Adobe Acrobat

  2. To remove metadata you will have to use the “PDF optimizer”

  3. Go to File > Save as Other > Optimized PDF...


 

  1. From this screen, you can select all items (metadata) you want to be removed from the file

  2. In the “Settings” drop down menu select the “Custom” option



  1. In the window on the left-hand side uncheck all the boxes except “Discard User Data”



  1. Select the words “Discard User Data” to reveal the various data options you can choose to remove

  2. In the window to the right make sure all items are unchecked except the “Discard document information and metadata”



  1. (Optional Step) If you would like to save these settings for future use click the “Save” button at the top of the window and label the setting something simple like “Metadata Removal Function” 



  1. this will now show up under the “Settings” drop down for future removals and therefore you would be able to simply select it and skip steps 6 through 10

  2.  Once you have everything set correctly click the “Ok” button at the bottom right of the window

  1. It will ask you to save the file, it is suggested that you save this as a new file with a new name in order to preserve the original file that will still have the proper metadata

  1. Once saved this new file version will no longer have any associated metadata and it is safe to share
